I got the soap and AS last week from Oleo website. Soap and AS package are pretty nice. Even shipping package from Oleo is pretty luxuries.
I like to use tub to load brush with soap. It has pretty large tub. For me, it is easy to use
I think because of Kokum butter, many of us smell cocoa and chocolate from the tub. But during lathering, I can smell oud and woody scents. I honestly do not like woody scents. But this one is nice, it is not too strong, and I like it.  It is ease to load and lather. Loading takes only few seconds and lathering is very quick too. Lather beautifully. Slickness is pretty good.
Good post-shave feeling. Never feel over-drying on my skin. With AS, scent is long-lasting. Also I can smell lighter and more attractive scents with the time.
My recommendation is same as almost everyone's. 6.5 oz is too much for us. Since many of us have at least 20 soaps.
I probably have over 50. We like to try new shaving soaps. 4 oz will be fine. 3 oz will be perfect.

Thank you for the detailed review and I just wanted to let you all know that I’ve been listening to all the comments and the soap will be in smaller jars so less soap. I’m going back and forth between two jars so it will depend on which one I go with as to what the exact amount of once’s of soap will be in the jar but for sure less than the 6.5 oz.

Regards

Frank

Does kokum butter give off a cocoa/chocolate scent? I've never looked at the features of it, but I feel like I've used other products that are heavy on it and haven't gotten that scent note (I think its actually the first ingredient on Siliski's new soaps and I don't recall getting that scent from it).

i was thinking since my PAA Organism smells almost same. But I checked now, my other PAAs have kokum butter, too. And they smell different.
In PAA Organism, I can see, it has cocoa butterate. I was wrong, sorry.

Oh definitely no need to apologize, I really know nothing of the chemistry of these things so I was wondering if maybe that's a feature of kokum butter that I might not have picked up elsewhere or been aware of.

As many have already stated, myself included, the Dragonsbeard soap really shines in the post shave feel. It leaves the face feeling moist without the dryness or irritation of other soaps. The face is so well hydrated that a traditional after shave may not be needed for moisturizing effect - you may still want one for its scent or other features. I stand by my initial opinions as I recently was sampling some Pannacrema Nuavia shave soap which prides itself on it's pre-shave and post-shave experience and commands a significant price premium. Dragonsbeard soap, for me, beats out the much more expensive Pannacrema soaps on every aspect. So again, I can't wait to see how the Dragonsbeard line develops.

Best of luck AJ

Thanks for the comments AJ I’m already working on version two of the DB soap and it will be kicked a couple of notches and of course the next 3 EHTHOS soaps. Packaging is the issue which has held me up but I’m pretty sure I’m going with a thick walled clear jar very similar to the MDC jar but only it’s a 6 oz jar instead of the 8 oz they use and 4oz of soap should take it up to the ledge so plenty of room to load if someone likes to load from the jar. Jar looks and feels great in hand.
Thanks again for the input and feedback. It helps me to better my products.

Update

Some of you may have read my earlier review (post #56), but for those who are tuning in late, IMO the soap is very clearly a top-shelf product.  I did five shaves, always enjoying the scent and finding the performance top notch - excellent protection, ghost lather, glide - whatever you could ask for, the soap delivered.  And the companion aftershave ("Skin Food Splash") was off-the-chart excellent IME.

I updated post #56 earlier this evening to address the one negative I reported at that time, the mild burning sensation, which at first I thought was an allergy.  I eventually realized that the soap and pre-shave I was using might be interacting to produce the burning, so I did an additional week with the Dragonsbeard soap only.  There were zero symptoms when using the soap alone.

 • Dragonsbeard soap only ==> No burning
 • Dragonsbeard soap only ==> No Post required, i.e., no astringents, splashes, or balms necessary
 • Dragonsbeard soap only ==> Just a great shave and fine skin every time

I pushed the soap hard too, and if you are interested, there are a few more details in the EDIT section at the end of the updated post #56.  And BTW, I'm posting this reference to the update here in an effort to get the latest information to everyone, including those who may have tuned earlier.
