DeLuxe Shaving Company is pleased to announce a new product line.  It will be named Grey Logo Soaps. Our current series of shaving creams will remain known as Green Logo Creams.

We have decided on selling 4 oz of soap poured into 8 oz. plastic screw top jars based on the feedback we received from a question I posted a while ago on the DFS forum.  Yes we really do listen!

The Grey Logo soaps are all tallow based and hand made.  They will contain Shea Butter and Lanolin for an incredible post shave feel.  The first release of Grey Logo soaps will consist of 3 main scents and a limited edition autumn scent.   Two of the three scents will be what we call 'theme soaps'.  The are meant to be sold together as a set but we will sell them individually as well.

We will expand/add to the line based on the feedback we get from our customers.  So be sure to tell us what you think!

We'll be posting the product names and images in the coming days.   Stay tuned.

Mods vs Rockers

It’s 1964 in Brittan and the BBC headlines read “Mods and Rockers jailed after seaside riots”.  These two youth subcultures were at odds with each other and the legend of Mods vs Rockers was born.

The Mods were the well-dressed youth of the 1960’s and were up to date with the latest fashion and music trends.  They were clean cut kids and were fans of the latest music of their era.  They could be heard listening to bands such as The Beatles, The Yardbirds or The Rolling Stones.  Their preferred method of transportation was the scooter which they considered hip and fashionable.

The Rockers on the other hand were the scruffy rebels whose subculture was centered upon motorcycling.  They wore leather jackets, boots and pompadour hairstyles.  Their music of choice was 1950’s Rock and Roll, music from Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Gene Vincent.  The Rockers were the descendants of the 1950’s Ton-Up Boys.

Their conflict became known as the Mods vs Rockers.  The Mods vs Rockers legend is still celebrated peacefully today in many cities, throughout the world.  Groups of motorcycle and scooter enthusiasts meet in predetermined locations and come dressed in period clothing and listen to period music to recreate the Mods vs Rockers legend.  There is even a very successful yearly event here in my city, Toronto www.modsandrockerstoronto.com

You may now be asking “so what does this have to do with wet shaving??”

Well, to pay tribute to this obscure but cool scene, we created two unique soaps based on these sub cultures and named them ‘Mods’ and ‘Rockers’.

Our ‘Mods’ shaving soap has a woody aromatic cologne type scent.  It is a refined and sophisticated scent containing notes of Bergamot, Mint, Lavender, Sandalwood, Jasmine, Cedar, Musk and Vanilla.  The scent is very noticeable from the moment you unscrew the jar and evolves wonderfully when lathered.  ‘Mods’ shaving soap is a scent that is suited for someone who is trendy and clean cut.  It’s a scent that evokes thoughts of riding a scooter while wearing a fine suit darting in and out of traffic through the busy streets of London.

If you like to match your scents, I’ve found that Mods pairs really well with Pinaud Clubman aftershave and the now discontinued but still available ‘Burberry Men’ by Burberry cologne (the red box).  In fact, this is the scent the soap was based on.  In my opinion, this combination goes incredibly well together.

Our ‘Rockers’ shaving soap can be described as sweet and dirty.  The scent contains notes of Raspberry, Lemon, Tanned Leather, Fresh Muddy Dirt, Moist Mossy Notes, Tahitian Vanilla and Tropical Flowers.  Certainly a strange combination, but it blends oh so well!  The primary note you notice when opening the jar is Raspberry and Lemon, but after a few moments, the Leather and Dirt come through, not too strongly, but just enough get your attention.  Rockers is a scent that is meant to bring out your wild side.  The scent of Leather and Dirt pay homage to the bikers of the 60’s while the Raspberry, Lemon and Vanilla lend a softer note to the soap.  This scent evokes thoughts of kick starting your vintage Triton motorcycle, putting on your goggles and giving the throttle a confident twist.  The smell of your leather jacket and the sound of your roaring exhaust fills your senses.  Rockers shaving soap was inspired by Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather cologne.

So it’s time to ask yourself, are you a Mod or a Rocker?  Maybe you’re a bit of both, perhaps a weekday Mod and a weekend Rocker!

Mods and Rockers soap will be sold individually and will also be available as a set.  The set will be sold at a discount.  These soaps are hand made by a very skilled Canadian Artisan and will be available on our website in the coming weeks.
