For DecemBoar 17 I went with my 24mm Zenith brush. I used the WK Dulci Tobacco generously gifted to me by Dave in KY . The razor is the usual suspect.

The Zenith, along with the WK soap, made for a wonderful lather. At first it felt a bit thin, at least from the blade-feel on the skin. By time the second pass, I had it dialed in well and it was good and protective. Three passes with some cleanup and it was DFS+.

In regard to the zenith. It made enough lather for the shave without having to go back. It was also soft and gentle on the skin. A winner, for sure.

Razor: Gillette Tech (Z4 1954)
Blade: Personna Platinum
Brush: Omega 49
Soap: TOBS Sandalwood

Acquired two fine Techs this week from a a famous e-auction house. $13.50 got me two ball end Techs, a 1954 Z4 and 1965 K2. They arrived yesterday and I just had to take one for a trial run this morning. I shaved my face with the bronze colored Z4 and got not a BBS shave, but a darn fine one. I added two shims to shave the dome. A very nice comfortable classic shave this morning, topped off with classic Old Spice. I have been ditching the bowl recently to try out face lathering. Might just become my preferred lathering method.

DecemBoar 18: TTO Spectacular shave

I was able to get in on the last day of (Old Sarge) Bryan's Twist To Open Spectacular fun with my '64 Steampunk Gillette Slim. Since it's Saturday, I started at 5 for the 1st pass, then to 4 for the rest of the shave. This was also the first use of the Discount Bin AP Shave Co flat top or fan boar. It is a little floppy, but I like that. And it held plenty of lather for 3+ passes! Just a bit pokey but coming along nicely. While hand lathering it this past week and towel drying/stropping, it would lose an occasional hair. For its first shave use it proceeded to lose 6!! I hope it calms down and isn't so nervous it sheds! I hope Dave's does at least as well as mine if not better, for the knot can't stay in the No Shedding Zone!

Here's to a good last weekend before Christmas!

Nice additions! And it sounds like I started out similar to you, bowl lathering for the first bit before trying face lathering. And once I started, clean up was quicker (by seconds, ha ha, but psychologically it makes me feel faster!) and I rarely bowl lather now. During winter months, I like my scuttle, and brush warmer, for a nice warm lather. Happy to hear/read that both new techniques and razors worked well for you!

I was only looking for Techs as my $3 1947-50 Tech is out on loan, I hope permanently, to a new wet shaver. He indicated he has been telling his friends and getting them interested. These might just find their way to some local gentlemen who will use them more than I will.

Once upon a time I tried face lathering and it just made a holy mess of the room. I discovered that if one starts out with a more dry brush and keeps the load pasty, it is much less messy to hydrate after the prelather paste is on the skin. I also never imagined a boar brush could feel so soft when face lathering.

Thanks Eric for getting this boar focus month on DFS. I have greatly benefitted from it!

Hey ewk! I laughed out load for real with "made a holy mess of the room!" I did that once, too, with a nice big glob of wonderful lather launched across the vanity to plop noisily and messily on my wife's counter stuff. Earned me the dreaded side-eye glance that spoke volumes!

Maggards order came in today. Paul mrdoug got me with the Premium Boar Knots available there so I took advantage of the free shipping the other day. To reach free threshold I got a 24mm Premium Knot for my (Thanks again Ken) Fluffy Industries Brush Handle and 2-26mm Pro 49 Omega Brushes at $10 each to harvest the knots out of them. $10 each knot is a bargain.

Nice looking brush, Dave!

I'll be curious to see how that Maggards knot performs.
