"John introduced the world of classic wet shaving to James by sending him a brush, soap and two safety razors to try. He continued to make adjustments for the next three months or so and was able to send John four units which were tested and then sold. John named the razor the BBS-1 and quickly asked James to produce more. James and John continued to collaborate and a few months later came up with the final design of the BBS-1."

Sounds like John said build me a razor but James actually came up with the design - and then they refined the final razor together. I know the first ones sold had a different handle (second from right I think).

Razor on far left shows promise.

As with a lean body,, a razor can never have too thin a head.

That's the Baili razor that the BBS-1's design was based off of believe it or not.

This is the specific Baili model in the photo?

If so, may buy one, post a review vis-a-vis BBS1 and pass it around.

Pardon having been intellectually lazy; presumed it out of production compounded with being jammed at moment

I guess only those that started this process know for sure but it looks identical and I ordered one out of curiosity myself.

I haven't used the Baili in years, but if I'm remembering correctly they were on par with a postwar Tech, which they were made to replicate. I could be wrong.

My first safety razor was either a Baili or a Weishi TTO.

The angle of the razor in the photo leads to an impression that the bar is in line with the plane of the baseplate, imparting an illusion of being even thinner in the head than the 'Classic' 131 in reality, eh?

Yes, angles can be deceiving but it's the same razor. If looking for a totally flat head the vintage German made razors were known for that characteristic in particular.

I have the BT131 (3-piece, they also make a TTO version). It shaves great to be honest and I was totally surprised the first time I used it. I was expecting it to be super mild like a Tech, but it's definitely more aggressive/efficient and still smooth. I can send it your way if you'd like, but you could just buy one for a few more dollars than it would cost to ship back. Not much of a gamble.

Thinking of doing a passaround but even shipping barebones, has been rightly suggested that numbers just make no sense
