If you send a PM saying you want to buy a listed item and are given payment instructions, then PAY FOR IT.  If you change your mind, write and say so.  To say that you want to buy and then fail to communicate any further is just plain rude and inconsiderate.

Yes. Very much this. A hobbyist forum isn't amazon, "yes I will buy it" isn't the same thing as 'Add to your cart'.

Also, if you list something for sale, and you notice a lot of people want it, do not delete the thread, and raise price. This isn't ebay, waste people's time in ebay.

I'm of the mindset that if someone doesn't complete a transaction within a decent amount of time (specified by whatever amount of time one would consider to be 'decent'), then I move on to the next person.

Not to be mean spirited, but shouldn't such behavior be reflected in feedback ? I'm not saying for someone who merely sends an inquiry, but for someone who 'commits to buy,' and doesn't follow through, other members should be forewarned that the individual is not responsible/dependable.

I'd say yes to that.

Posting Freak
Thats why its such a hassle to sell stuff especially vehicles.  The number of people that will call and say they are definitely interested and will be at your place in xx minutes/hours and then never show up or contact you again outnumbers those who actually do show by 20 : 1.  One reason trade in values are low - other than the dealer needs to make something on the sale.

I've known people who behave the same way in their personal lives as well.  Yeah lets for sure get the wives and the kids and go up to xx destination next weekend at 9:30am on Saturday, we'll bring sandwiches and blah blah blah and then when you call to confirm a day or two before you either go to voicemail and don't hear back or they say they have other plans and they act like they don't know what you're talking about.  Its not like you said "lets do lunch" and they said "yeah, definitely - call me" that nobody reasonably expects will ever happen.  No, you make firm plans and either something better came up subsequently or they never actually meant anything they said but it seemed like the thing to say at the time in their sociopathic mind. You should ask for a credit card deposit if you want to make plans.  Plans involve commitment and possibly sacrificing other opportunities.

Next time when they say they want to buy and ask for payment information tell them great I'll send it right over and then don't.  See what happens then.  Big Grin

I also think its rude when people don't bother to write you back when you inquire about something, or just stop responding to a conversation. For example a trade proposition... if you're not interested, just write back and say 'Thanks for reaching out but no thank you.' I've been in back and forth conversations with sending photos and weights and whatever, and then people just go dark. Its weird, and definitely more than a little dickish in my opinion.
Hadn't really thought about leaving negative feedback for those types, but maybe not a bad idea.

Honestly I don't worry about it too much anymore. I guess the older I get the less I expect from folks (see signature). I also expect 99% of the replies from non shaving forum sales to be scams anyway.

But few things are more sweet than getting to write back once in a while, "Sorry I haven't heard from you for a while so I sold it for X less than the asking price..." (you disrespectful turd.)

Living on the edge
I've always had impeccable transactions across many shave forums.
You do get the occasional query followed by indecision or a rejection, sometimes you get
outright trolling from guys who are enraged you didn't sell to them, or pulled your item (without committing
to anyone) and revised the price upward, or aren't selling at the price they want to pay.... sometimes you
get stupid questions like does this come in a box even though you haven't shown or mentioned a box....
but that is the cost of BST access and not having to pay double fees to eBay and PayPal.

As a rule, owners can do whatever they wish with a product they've purchased. And buyers can also do whatever
they want. What you cannot and should not do is misbehave after a sale is agreed to....that is egregious. If someone
says they're going to buy from you and are dragging their heels, never send a follow up message, as they might take it
as leverage to haggle. Simply ignore them and sell to the next person who asks.

I would say that overall I've dealt with some very, very nice folks and happy to say that each and
every piece I've sold has found a good home.
