Clown Fruit.....hmmmm, where to begin? The whole concept of this collaboration was born while spending time with Jenn & Robert (Local Gent) this past, PAST September at The Seattle Shave Con 2016...we may also have been drinking. Robert mentioned something about clowns in the woods on the news...that's all I needed to hear. This sounded perfectly horrific but also very Monty Python to me, especially the way people spoke of these clown like they were a species of their own...maybe they are?
Lets face it, Clowns are freaking scary anytime of year but it's Halloween and werewolves, vampires, ghosts & skeletons have had their time. They have also been softened down by the media and played out. Where as clowns, exact opposite. Clowns were never meant to be creepy as hell, that just kinda happened, unfair I know but such is life. But I digress...

So their we were sitting around the lounge of our hotel and trying to come up with a concept, I immediately blurted out "Clown Fruit", as if channeling Pennywise himself. Everyone said the name a couple times and it clicked...except for Fran, it never clicked with Fran, she hates clowns and everything they're about, she also despises glitter. So it was (almost) unanimously agreed, Clown Fruit it was and then we continued to drink and google creepy clown photos on our phones, much to Fran's chagrin.

Once back in Arizona I had to come up with a scent that would do such a killer name and concept justice. I had been wanting to do an absinthe scented aftershave for awhile, but Robert and I had also wanted to relabel the Radical Orange Blossom Soap & Splash we did in collaboration for the past Riverside meet up...of course I totally wrecked that idea once back in the lab...although a citrus FRUIT might prove right for a product called Clown Fruit. I sipped absinthe and imagined a group of rogue clowns living in the orchards or forests of wherever, intoxicated on the scent of Neroli and the sweet green liquor known for it's hallucination causing properties...good stuff for sure. Smile (Note: I was sipping on the made in the USA version, same great taste minus the fun stuff)

I had recently been experimenting perfuming with Toasted Oak Cubes in the batch, taking a cue from the brewing industry. It turned out fantastic, adding a fuller, richer body to the scent, this is Blue Samhain I speak of. I feel like the addition of the oak really took my perfuming to another level...so I gave it ago again. However this time I looked at Absinthe and how it is traditionally made. So wormwood it was!

I experimented with adding dried Wormwood and Toasted Hungarian Oak Chips to the perfume as it matured over the weeks, like the awkward, bumbling, teenage brother of Shakespeare's 3 weird sisters. Not only does wormwood give absinthe it's bitter taste and psychic kick, it also gives it that otherworldly green tint! The results were amazing, I held a bottle of absinthe next to the jar that my batch matured in...it was uncanny, I had captured the soul of the green fairy!

From there I built upon the scent; Neroli, Amyris, Elderberry, Elderflower Hydrosol, Tobacco Absolute and of course Burnt Sugar the most hypnotic part of the "absinthe ceremony"!

The scent was rich and magical, the breath of the sacred clown, the sigh of the mime and the heart of the harlequin, truly sinister yet captivating (in a Stockholm syndrome kinda way), a conversation piece...with yourself. Clown fruit really took shape and became a world of it's own to wear and explore...if you dare.

Thanks Robert & Jenn for humoring me with this collaboration, you 2 rock! Happy Halloween!

Looks like it's sold out. Are you planning on restocking or is it gone for good?
