If you want to remove the plating then use vinegar or anything acidic.
For cleaning warm water and dish soap wash and scrub with a toothbrush. Try not to use boiling water since it can distort the shape of certain metals and especially plastic parts.
To sanitize scrubbing bubbles, lysol concentrate or isopropyl alcohol let soak for about 10 minutes. That will kill most anything. As long as the razor isn't rusting bacteria and germs don't survive longer than about 48 hours on metal as long as it is dry. The exception is silver or silver plate water is what activates it's antimicrobial properties. If you have one plated in silver, sanitizing is by and large not necessary, it will self sanitize if you wet the razor and leave it that way for a little bit before using.
If the razor is showing signs of staining or staining on the blades due to plating loss and/or a galvanic reaction also going on with the blade and razor head you need to starve the surfaces of the electrolyte to break the reaction. After each shave shake off the excess water and dip the razor head in isopropyl alcohol to remove any excess moisture and store normally. Unless the air is too humid it should be enough to break the reaction. You can also use it to sanitize after each use. If not then store the razor head submerged instead in the isopropyl alcohol between uses.
