Hi hawns is this the stuff that won't ship north of the border?  You know, I have lots of aftershave splashes, balms and toners but I'm finding it harder not to reach for the Chatillon Lux every morning.  I can't even imagine what thats going to be like when I receive my next order which was a bit bigger than my first order.  First world problems.

Unfortunately, yeah, that's the forbidden fruit, according to the postal service. Hopefully in the next month or two we'll get the ball rolling with a retailer up that way that we've been talking to. And/or one that we haven't been talking to. Retail is definitely the next step.

Also, thanks! That's the kind of stuff that I love to hear. And we don't have a shipping box big enough to handle an order that size, so you got a recycled box. I mean, it's for the environment. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Great, I'm all for the environment. Its going to take me a while to work through the inventory so I figure I can wait on the new splash.

Wow!  I recognize that packaging  Shawn, what percentage alcohol will be in the new alcohol based aftershave?  Also, will you still be carrying the toner and salve?  

Aftershave is a funny thing, folks seem to really like the alcohol based stuff - in talking with Will at B&M he tells me that his splashes outsell the Kyovu by a wide margin.  Now its not exactly a fair comparison because the Kyovus are a mature product while the splashes are new and tend to be released in LEs along with LE soaps.  Notwithstanding that, I find your toner (and B&M Kyovu) to be far more soothing and skin nurturing than any alcohol splash I have.  Living in a dry, cold climate I like soothing and nourishing as there's nothing makes you say ouch quite like your face cracking on a cold, windy winter day. I still use the alcohol splashes however, not every day.

The other odd thing about aftershaves is that a significant number of people (at least here on DFS) seem to want a matching shave soap and aftershave product.  I find that unduly limiting and there are plenty of great soaps and aftershaves that don't have a complementary other product.  While I do try to find complimentary scents its really not that important to me, after all, after I've rinsed, alumed and cold rinsed there is nothing left of the shave soap scent on my face so its pretty much a blank canvas for the post shave treatment.  Thats what I like about Chatillon Lux.  its not an accessory to help sell soap, its a feature attraction.

Hey Mark it sounds like you know what I was thinking when we started Chatillon Lux. I think pairing complementary scents is one of my favorite things. I paired Night Music and Souq today and it was great. Often pairing a different soaps with the same scents causes different notes to come out, too, since your nose is kind of already accustomed to certain scents throughout the shave. Plus, that's the scent that sticks with you. I love a really great scented soap, but I wondered, "Shouldn't aftershave scent be more important than the soap's scent?"

Although, to be fair, that does explain the matching aftershaves and soaps. If you love the soap's smell, then you probably want it to stick around for longer. That's why I love to post recommended pairings on social media: to try to help find matches people didn't think of. Pairing soaps with aftershaves is something I really enjoy, though, so I love doing it.

And don't worry. The toners and salves are here to stay. I also think Kyovu is pretty underrated, but alcohol is a must-have for some, and I totally get it. I tried to use high concentrations of chamomile, calendula and elderflower in the toner in order to gently mimic the astringent properties of alcohol, but like Coca-Cola said, I guess you can't beat the real thing. But that was the end goal, anyway, to build a spectrum of aftershave treatments.

Thats good to hear, I hate it when a product I love gets discontinued.  It seems to happen a lot - the Firefly effect (although to be fair Firefly was cancelled long before I discovered it. )

Which social media do you post your pairings?  I have twitter but not Facebook.  I think I'll start a thread on DFS where people can post their pairings - there's nothing like many minds working on an idea.  I agree that that the aftershave is IMO at least as important as the soap at least fragrance wise as its going to stay with you much longer than the soap.  The soap scent is pretty important without a doubt but it just takes you through the shave.
