Doug, I too would be very interested to hear your feedback. I got the same razor as you but in SB both sides, Level 2, hammered antiqued brass, and I was prepared to be underwhelmed. I found it a great shaver, extremely smooth, and surprisingly efficient.

One tip, if you haven't shaved with it yet-Brian treats the handle with a protective wax, and I found the handle a bit slippery during the first few shaves. That wears off in short order.

In the words of Scrooge " Spirit, show me no more!" They are indeed stunning and I fear even pricing one. I'd lather be shaving's recent video displayed a vintage Kirby ( Lareshe made) with the head treaded or whatever you want to call it.

Would be nice to hear your thoughts after you’ve tried out the razor. They really are works of art, and from what I’ve read, quite functional at that.

Got my first shave in today.  First, I remember why I liked the old Gillette razors.  While the short handles are more difficult for me, they do bring your hand closer to your face which gives you a bit more control over the shave.

For the mid level of the three base plates, I found it a bit more aggressive than I was expecting.  I did get a fantastic shave with it though.  One small nick on my neck near my jaw line, but that can easily be the brand new Personna 74 in there, as those are quite sharp for the first couple shaves.  It could also be the wax on the handle as it was a touch slippery for this shave.

Overall, I give the razor high marks, and I may at some point try a L1 base.  I am a big fan of dual head designs, but this is the first one where I have really liked both sides of the head.  I've tried all the dual heads out there, and I am most pleased with this design.

Stunning looks, and I will use this razor and blade all week to get a better feel for it.  Very nice and smooth first shave.

Glad to hear you had a good first shave with it. This razor grew on me because it was a pretty efficient shaver, but the blade feel was very gentle. Looking forward to hearing more as you use it this week.

My Charcoal Goods Level 3 open comb in antique brass is my favorite DE razor, bar none. I also love the PAA DOC Evolution in stainless, the Ikon Tech, and the 2011 R41, for reference. Other DEs I enjoy include the ATT H2, FaTip Piccolo, Le Coq cage comb. My favorite SE is the Asylum RX, by far.

I used my Charcoal today, and am very impressed, again. Nothing else gives me a closer, longer-lasting shave. Period. I love many razors, including the ones mentioned above, as well as the many Gem-blade and injector razors I use. But nothing is better than my Charcoal.
