Anyone new in the community I wish them the best. I have a 3rd owner Timeless and of course being Canadian I do like my Karve. (reminds me to order another plate for $40 Cnd - $30 US) Those prices tell a story about new shavers - of which I'm one. Some brands will work - others not so much. I am saving up for a Blackland at the moment.

This our first post on the forum and we wanted to thank the moderators and community for allowing us here. We wanted to take this time to introduce ourselves and thank you for allowing us to join the community. Sorry for being late to this post but we weren't sure of the vendor guidelines and wanted to respect these forums as a place for the community to share objective insights. We have also been focusing on shipping to our new consumers, ironing out the operation details and just getting our products shipped to our customers.

We thought we would address some of the questions and comments directly here:

1) "High Polish Finish - Some machine marks are visible. Some scratches also exist, especially when magnified. We call these marks "character", these marks are unique to each safety razor."

We struggled with how to disclaim this at launch. We believe our finish is strong, highly reflective, highly polished but there are imperfections. We go through a number of steps to obtain the high quality finish while maintaining critical dimensions. But at the end of the day imperfections do exist, we chose and continue to disclose this. We wanted our consumers to make as much of an informed decision prior to purchase as best we could. In hind site, reference to adding "character" was a mistake, however we make no apologize for disclaiming the imperfections. Finishing can be a subjective area and we felt any reference to mirror would be misleading including a reference to a "#7 mirror finish" as this could be misleading to people unfamiliar with finishing standards. We will continue to improve our finishing so we can ultimately claim a "#8 mirror Finish" or a "Super #8 Mirror". We will share more in the future...

2) Price

"greedy price gouging" - Not True. Nobody knows what our costs are or what decisions went into them but us. Nothing we say is intended to justify price, ultimately it is the customer who decides what is a value but thought we would share some manufacturing insight that impacts price. A lot of variable costs go into machining, including the following:

- Quantity (How many are made)
- Material cost (303, 304, 316, 17-4, aluminum, Titanium, etc)
- Material source/quality (German steel, US Steel, Japanese Steel, Chinese steel)
- Machining cost i.e. speed at which the material can be machined (303, 304, 316, 17-4, Titanium, aluminum, brass, tolerances, machine marks)
- The cuts (small cuts, large cuts, through-holes, larger flat cuts, etc...)
- Where it is made (US vs China, NY vs California, Canada, etc...)
- Tolerance certification (.002" tolerance on all cuts?, .002" on critical dimensions only?, .001" tolerance?, etc...)
- Weight of the end product (In our case it was tougher to machine a thin base plate to reduce weight)
- Surface marks (The less machine marks = higher cost.)
- These are just some of the variables

We chose a small production run, US and German steel, 316L stainless steel, vintage chevron cuts/design, USA made and we can't publish tolerances(too many disclaimers to be clear). Again nothing is intended to justify our price but did want to share some insight into the manufacturing of a safety razor. We hear you on the price...

3) Return policy

No secret that a lot of safety razor manufacturers use Shopify to host the stores, with this they provide some legal disclaimers templates. You will notice a lot of us share this language. We added language to this to reduce fraud. We have since softened that language and made it less "intimidating". You can find it here: https://carbonshavingco.com/policies/refund-policy.

Never our intent to reject returns from unhappy customer.

4) Reviews

We have no plans to "shill" but did reach out to some folks who have experience and perspective to provide insight, reviews and feedback. We also welcome feedback from those who purchased to help us refine.

Again thank you for the feedback, we are listening...

Nice intro CarbonShavingCo. I'm a razor maker in Woodbury. We should meet when your schedule allows for introductions. Congrats on your product launch. Your list on cost inputs is spot on.

I actually do know what your costs should be and I know exactly what decisions go into them. I also know which things on your list are ridiculous and which aren't. It's my full-time job so I'm not blowing smoke here. I wish you the best of luck because you seem like a sincere and kind person, but this isn't personal and I stand by my comment regarding price. I've said my piece and overstepped my bounds enough as it is so I'll step away now and go back to following my rule of silence. Have a great weekend Smile.

I placed my order on Friday at 9:00 am the first day and the razor arrived Monday.  So far and only 2 shaves, very happy with the razor.  Smooth, efficient and better job on my problem areas than other razors.  Neutral post shave feelings.  Only complaint was the packaging - nice white burlap bag and airborne allergies.

Standard, based on your comment and lining the Carbon up with a Wolfman and Seygus, does that mean the Carbon did a better job on your problem areas than those 2 razors?
