Go back to advertising your crappy shaving products Gillette. I don't care one iota about your opinions on the issue of the day, even if I agree with them. The last thing we need is corporate America telling us how to think or live our lives. You're off your rocker if you think this is anything more than them marketing to a generation that is shifting their political views in that direction. Do you think these companies really care about anything other than their bottom line? Dolla dolla bill y'all...

I thought the ad was a crappy, shallow, attempt to virtue signal while at the same time showing that their view on the subject is myoptic; and, they are truly not interested in “fixing” anything.
In my understanding of shaving, women shave more surface areas on their bodies than we do. Anyone with a daughter will testify that girls are just as prone to bullying and other nasty behavior as boys. If the social inappropriate behaviors that need “fixing” are bullying, sexism, and abuse, why single out men? Why were girls beating up girls not referenced, why was a man hating woman not shown making rediculous comments with a another rational woman telling her that it’s not okay to man bash? We all know it’s not a one sided problem.
Secondly, as a man, if this dumb ass commercial made you check yourself or all of a sudden made you feel woke, where have you been? Did your dad not teach you to punch a bully in the mouth? Have you not kicked another’s guys ass for demeaning your girl growing up? If not, and you let it happen without acting, don’t pass your guilt onto me! Did your parents not teach you to respect and cherish women? Do you need f’ing P&G’s marketing and ad agency to do that now? Really!!? Thanks P&G, I’ve been doing those things for 40 years and don’t need you to lecture me about them now. You’re too late. If
If your response is to say, “what’s wrong with someone saying to do the right thing?”, it’s not! It’s a miss represented lecture about a subject that everyone already knows is wrong. Don’t pretend that guys don’t know it’s wrong to rape and bully others. Just because high profile narcissistic media types and politicians were finally told that they now have to treat other humans as humans and not hedonistic objects of pleasure, doesn’t mean the majority of us didn’t already know it! And don’t pretend it’s only a man problem. To pretend that it is and ignore the entire problem is recklous and dangerous. It’s not enlightening at all. Its the opposite actually. It’s a lie, which is never a way to be more virtuous. That’s disingenuous and cheap...and predictable unfortunately.

bgremill I think your post has valid points as to why they didn’t tackle girl-girl bullying etc... my guess would be because in the news and all the cases in the last year there hasn’t been any girl-girl rapes and sexual assaults especially committed by high profile women... it’s been men sexually assaulting women and raping women..... just a guess.... the grab em by the #$%^ so to speak syndrome that sparked in part #metoo

You're referring to Harvey Weinstein in the Gillette ad, right?

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

I understand the controversy and the strong feelings for and against this advertising, but to me it is just that: advertising, an attempt to manipulate my response to the Gillette brand in order to get my money.  It is no more or less offensive to me than any other such attempt.  However, I find quite laughable the notion that anyone at Gillette is demonstrating strong moral fiber or social responsibility or has any admirable motive.

John, while I would like to think that there are at least a few morally upright and socially responsible higher ups at a company as large as P&G/Gillette, I completely agree with you about the advertising.  It all does, indeed, come down to the bottom line.  It has been said that even bad publicity is good publicity so I see this ad as a real winner for Gillette no matter what we as individuals think.
