In most cases, I prefer buying directly from the artisan. He or she makes more money that way, and I want them to stay in business.
Don't get me wrong, I love the reputable vendors-you know who they are-and I'll buy from them if the artisan is sold out, or if the deal offered is too good to resist, but when I think of the joy that I get from a beautifully crafted soap, razor, or brush, I want to reward the person who created it if possible.
