hi all,

we discussed this in the mod forum. as Cowboys1 broke no rules on DFS, he will not be banned. while some people might be opposed to what some call 'bst flipping' as being abhorrent or not gentlemanly, I'm not one of those individuals...do people get upset if someone sells an item for massively less than what it's worth? no, of course not....so why the outrage when something goes in the opposite direction?

we've had these discussions in the past on the forum about people who do this and we've always erred on the side of: let the market work. here's a lengthy thread I found on a quick search - https://damnfineshave.com/thread-shadiness

I try!

when I first created the forum, I wanted to shape it in a way that allows as much free flow of information as possible (within reason, of course). the same goes for the BST: since I value the free market (I have a tattoo on my leg to validate as much), that's how I'd like to see DFS run.

now, with that in mind, if someone doesn't want to do business with X because of whatever reasons, that's within their rights.

Gentlemen,  I have worked with Andrew on three different shave sites and have been at this iteration of Damn Fine Shave since the beginning.  Some of you may not agree with Andrew's response here.  Frankly, I was one who did not and I spent a lot of time on this answering PMs, discussing the various ways of looking at the problem with the other moderators, and finally discussing it with Andrew.  Ultimately, however, the laissez-faire attitude that is the underpinning of the B/S/T here at DFS has generally worked, even though we moderators do not always agree on a particular outcome.  Stay alert and if you see inflated prices then don't buy.  If you believe someone has a reputation of flipping then don't sell.  While the B/S/T is certainly a popular thread, Damn Fine Shave should be, and is, so much more than that.

Freddy,

Per Andrew “flipping” isn’t against any rules.  You’re still giving that a negative connotation.  A free market allows for that to occur.  This happens everyday on DFS with Wolfman Razors because they are rare to obtain.  DFS members are marking them up greatly.  Isn’t that true!

I will not hiding.
I am one of some people who will have stupéfaction about this selling post .
You must understand , i am european.
The "slogan " let the market rule is not cultural for me .
And i am not a socialiste ..lol.
I will pass différents provocation i received .Not important.
The most principal WE having the wish to talk .
And we have talking . I understand this point of view of lets the market do...not sure i am 100%
Agree with that . But i understood.
Finally WE find an arrangement. And fall ok for an "higher reasonnable price".
For different reason and certainly not for only the item selling , WE fall agree.
I continue to think i pointed a good point of view like yours.
But i accept and understand the way of the BST like you describe.
Just forgive me my european culture.
I feel like a "Pyrrhus"...
End of the story for me.And no problem for me with Cowboy1.

* Just hope you understand me.

While I agree (for whatever that’s worth) with Andrew and the Mods, DFS is generally a non-combat zone…
I’d like to believe that since we are all here as gentlemen, the BST isn’t intended as a profit center.
I’d suggest, More like a place to exchange items fairly.
This is a hobby, not the CBOT floor and we’re not trading pork bellies.

We have PIF opportunities and also…sometimes a member might decide to sell something at a low price just to pass it on to another DFS member to enjoy it.
If someone thinks their razor is worth $1500 and someone agrees and buys the razor for that amount…well, that’s capitalism.
Reselling an item to make money is for eBay, not on a wet shaving forum BST thread.
Like many things in our upended society, it’s about self-respect, personal responsibility and doing the right thing.
And around here…being a gentleman in a gentleman’s hobby.
Good rule of thumb, don’t be a dick.

In all my years on DFS I don’t recall anyone selling a Wolfman at 3 times the purchase price. I enjoy trying new razors and have sold many on the BST if they don’t knock out one of my current razors. Most of the time I am selling at 75% of the original price. I can understand someone selling at a price to cover their costs and maybe a small profit on a hard to find item. IMHO if you want to make a huge profit sell on one of the auction sites. Many of us on this forum are friends and treat each other that way. Just my 2 cents worth
