Easy way to get a good boar knot is to buy an Omega brush and harvest the knot. That's what I do all the time.

I listened to a Lather Talk podcast episode with the Heritage shave brush guy. He said he used the knot from the Omega 10098 in his gelled boar brushes so I bought one of those. His brushes are always sold out when I check. The 10098 is a big knot but it is the most foul smelling knot I’ve ever had the opportunity to use. Not the typical smell you get from boars either but a nauseating (and persistent) chemical smell that I’m guessing is the stuff they treat it with to gell the tips. I’m sure it will eventually calm down but it doesn’t help that I’m so repelled by it. The Omega handle is not exactly a work of art either. Apart from that, it’s a great brush.  Happy2
