You cannot use a straight razor "a few times" and expect to enjoy the experience. Many people say that it takes about 100 shaves to become proficient using a straight razor. I think that is a reasonable number. Also, straight razors vary in length, blade width, blade grind, and edge honing that it is highly unlikely that the 1st razor you try will be ideal for your shave.
That is no different than using a safety razor. It is unlikely that the razor and blade combination you use for the first time will be ideal. It took me several years of experimentation to learn what works best for my beard and face.
