Guys and Gals, these Backland Razors have my interest piqued. I know they have been around for a couple years now, but I am eager to hear some contemporary opinions on these razors. Pictures are always appreciated, whether accompanied by opinions or not, because damn, that razor is beautiful. Thanks all!

These are fantastic shavers!
Personally, I was intimidated by the feel of the razor when I first started using it as it seemed to have a much more pronounced/aggressive blade feel, even though it isn't overly aggressive, compared to other razors such as the R41, Ikon Tech, Barbasol Floating head, etc..Once I modified my technique with the razor, I have been getting superb shaves. It is very effective.
One thing that I should mention, even though I have not seen anyone else do so, and it is subjective, of course, I find there is a difference in feel amongst all three finishes. The Black Oxide seems to have a pronounced 'drag' to it, less so for the Matte finish. However, the Polished version is very smooth and it seems to provide me with the smoothest shaves. I couldn't get on with the Black Oxide and I have started combining the Matte and Polished finishes together in different combinations with the top-caps and the bottom-plates and this is working out, very well.
Personally, I love the feel of the Matte handle as it is more secure in the hand while shaving due to the finish.

The Sabre is also an excellent shaver and the best SE razor I have tried. No other SE razor has been able to allow me to use those GEM (SE) blades as I find them too rough in all of the other vintage SE razors I have tried. I use the Sabre for my head shaves, every day, and it is working out, beautifully. It is quite mild, but very effective and smooth. Unfortunately, it is too mild for my face shaves. As a result, I am waiting for the more aggressive bottom-plate to be offered so that I can try it.

Overall, I highly recommend these shavers and you should give them a try.
Good luck.

I find the Sabre as good as most of my GEM & EverReady GEM razors but not more efficient or more comfortable than most of them. It does feel different and is nice enough that I'll keep it and use it on occasion.

To be vintage it must be older than me!
The last razor I bought was the next to last razor I will ever buy!

I find the Sabre to be the smoothest amongst all SE razors, vintage or new.

I liked machine BlackBird but still sold it as I didn't like how the baseplate felt sharp on face. I will probably buy a polished one in future just to try again, or wait for Shane to come up with a baseplate that has more rounded edge Smile

To echo celestino, the Blackbird is an incredible shaver. I also found the blade feel a bit intimidating when I began using it, but have come to really appreciate it and it is now the DE I reach for most often. It provides an incredibly smooth shave and provides me with consistently better results than my ATT S1 or Rockwell 6S.

I initially had a black oxide version and also found that finish to produce a bit of drag. I now have the Polished version and it glides effortlessly, in addition to looking stunning. The corners on the early baseplates were a bit sharp, but I don’t find that to be the case with my Polished version.

I can’t recommend the razor highly enough, and Shane is a great guy to deal with.

The Blackbird is my favorite DE. Nice blade feel, great angle of attack, just a fun razor to use.

Love my Blackland Razor! One of the very best shavers in my den, I’m always able to get a smooth efficient shave. Used to own the Machined and didn’t notice any difference between that and the Black Oxide. Can’t wait to pick one up in Polished finish. The Owner Shane is a great guy to deal with, can’t wait to give him some more of my business!

I have the black oxide version and I don't notice the drag unless my angle is off or I'm applying too much pressure. I actually like the drag because it tells me when I'm doing something wrong. I have the SB & OC plates and I like both of them. I think the OC is a little smoother, but both are comfortable and efficient.
