Blackland Razors - does finish matter?

My personal (and professional) opinion is that the finish does not affect performance. The difference in face feel is minimal. Many customers don’t share this experience and that’s okay, but I always advise customers to pick a finish based on aesthetics and not performance.

So little of the razor touches your face I just can't imagine how any particular finish would read differently through a layer of lather and onto your skin. IMO

I don't know, I guess I'll have to be the dissenting opinion here (again). I can definitely feel a difference in glide between razors with different finishes. For example, I had a Ti Baby Smooth and an iKon 102 slant. Both of those have a "matte" finish and with both I noticed a considerable amount of drag. My other razors have a shiny chrome or gold plated polished finish. They glide across the face more effortlessly. They are all smooth, just a different face feel I guess. I prefer the feel of the polished finish so I sold the matte ones.

I probably will, but I wouldn’t say we have active plans. The current focus is on our new designs and finishes.

I had a Timeless Ti 95 with the bead blasted finish that I decided to polish. The difference in glide was immediately noticable. The polished variant is much smoother than the original.

Also important to note is that if you buy a razor from us you can swap finishes within the first 30 days for just the cost of return shipping and the difference in product cost. For example, if you find the machined finish doesn’t cut it, you can trade it in for polished finish and we’ll only invoice for the $30 polishing cost.

Can you share some info about what’s cooking in Santa’s work shop?

Sure! First up is a more affordable machined stainless steel DE. That is in production now. Later in spring or early summer is an awesome and unique AC SE. Somewhere in that time window we’ll be adding some incredible premium finishes. Then a slant later in the year along with some accessories.
