It's sharp and it cuts. I like it...
Northeast, USA
I’ve had a couple of shaves with the Osprey this week with a KAI blade installed for 2 of them. Very nice blade feel that actually allows me to dial it up or down depending on how much of that feel I’m looking for. In general, it allows me to bring it down a 1/2 to full gap setting as it is a slightly wider blade edge to edge. I still do like the Gillette Minora in the Osprey as it just feels comfortably smoother with the Feather perhaps just ahead of the KAI in overall effectiveness. Still, if one wants a bit more feel and potential cutting ability the KAI is a very good viable option in the Osprey.

Great shaves to all…

Wonder if Shane is going to let those that bought the machined version send them back for polishing and what will be the cost of that?

We’re working on a service line now. In the meantime, shoot us an email and maybe we can do a one-off to help test the service process.

I would say let us open the gap up, but lack of gap doesn't stop the Blackbird from performing exceptionally well. Work your weird voodoo, Shane.

I've wanted a Sailor but just can't justify the price. Is it really that good? I'm hard pressed to imagine anything getting me a better 1st pass shave and by extension, complete shave than my machined Blackbird.

On my face, yes, the Sailor is miles ahead of a Blackbird...and I like Blackbirds. It's also better than the Osprey by a good bit, but I play in the upper range of the gaps...and I like blade feel.

If you like milder razors with less blade feel, get the Osprey.

As to cost, the new Hybrid Sailor was offered at like $330. I just sold mine for $275ish. Try to get a used one.

I have to agree with LOOT on this one. The Osprey is great and I would like to get mine polished once they figure that out. I am waiting for the titanium version as I think that one will be even better. I don’t think that it’s in the same class as any of my Sailors or Taiga’s but, it is a great razor and I am glad to have it in my collection. I am a higher gap shaver and even at the highest gap setting of 9, it still leaves me wanting a bit more. That being said, the build quality and design is great and the gaps and efficiency are great for those that don’t like higher gap aggressive razors.

I don't need no 1000 dollar Sailor, nor the hybrid models. Those are for rich people aiming for super luxury. But sometimes posts about Sailors, make folks think that they need one, in order to achieve the best shave possible, and that is just further from the truth. If you can afford a Sailor, and want one, fine, go ahead. But for the 99% of us out there, a 350 dollar Osprey is the pinnacle of a whisker eradication machine tool. And while most aggressive razors I never recommend to beginners who are just starting out, and need to learn technique, the Osprey is a different breed.

Shane did such an excellent job making the Osprey a safe shaving razor, that any beginner can start out on levels 1 through 3, to learn their technique, producing a mild shave. Then they will have the time to refine it down further, on settings 4 to 6, for the mid aggression. And by the time they are using settings 7 through 9, they will be experts in no time. I gotta say, its IMHO, that the Blackland Osprey, is a shaving razor marvel. I own a dozen razors folks, and out of all of them, the Osprey became king of my shave den.

Is there any talk of a Osprey passaround on DFS?
