I’m new to the shaving experience scene. Rather than finding my way by buying full cans, where are the best places to buy samples?

Maggards sells samples of many soaps. They're a good place to go for selection.

Additionally, many manufacturers sell their own samples. Murphy&McNeil, Stirling Soaps, Hub City Soaps, etc.. Of course, that's can get expensive - paying for shipping from each company separately.

I'd suggest taking a look at Maggards first.

Thanks mrdoug . I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I’ll give Maggards a look.

So far, I’ve only used Tobac and I just ordered Cannonball shaving cream from a recommendation off the forum. I’ve noticed there are several scents and feels to shaving cream and I’d like to explore as much as possible without breaking the bank.

Stirling Soap Co. sells very healthy size samples of their many scents. I have also used Maggards for non-Stirling soaps.

This is an amazing site. A great way to see what notes are in any given soap, and find others using the similar notes. Of course, it's not an exact science... A percentage difference here and there can completely change a scent.

Purchasing soap samples is a great way to evaluate the scent of the soaps. However, I do not like using samples as I never seem to develop as good a lather from a sample as I do from a full tub. I do a lot of soap evaluations. To insure accuracy, I always want to use full tubs for evaluations.

Economics aside, RayClem's point is very well taken IMO, but samples exist because economics often matter enough to make samples attractive.  And in a world where economics matter, Maggards and Stirling are not only good places to get samples.  They are well respected among shavers as good places to shop for shaving related gear.
