I prefer a tub (bet you could guess) or a plastic tube. Metal tubes a la 444 or PREP are okay, but it's easy to accidentally press on it while closed and then get a blob of too much product.

Pumps seem like a good idea, but it makes their footprint bigger (have to have room for the spout) and then the last portion of the product is always a pain.

I like pumps, but I agree that the last of it gets lost in the bottom. If the balm is thin, a flow limiter would be fine.
I was able to get pretty much all of my Proraso White lotion/balm out of their glass bottle with no limiter, since it was thick enough to control.
