I have only tried one alum block, Trumpers, bought it last fall. The thing might never disappear although I use it every day. At the rate its is melting, I might never need to buy another. But I would never now not want to use one. I love the alum.

I'm going to have to try the Trumpers. My first alum block was made by shavex and it worked very well and slowly dissolved to a thin wafer before breaking and becoming non-functional. I'm currently using Osma but there always seems to be some fissure or other internal defect that causes early break up and prevents me from practically getting full usage. I tried some shavex blocks that were discounted and they were just not good quality IMO.

I don't use alum, any longer, as I just didn't enjoy how taught my skin felt after using it. Nothing will ever supplant my shea butter. Big Grin

I'm with celestino on the alum. That is, I hated the taut very dry feeling it gave my face. Shea butter, on the other hand, is way way too greasy for me, even using a tiny amount, and I don't care for the scent.

I like the Osma block that I am currently using (and have been using for years, and will be using for years lol).

That said, my favorite method of delivery for alum is in an aftershave. Myrsol's Metilsol is great for this, as are the top of the line Santa Maria Novella products.

I had the RazoRock stick alum first but I couldn't stand the sharp edges. My second one was one of the scratch-and-dent ones from Maggard. Based on this thread, it looks like my next one will be Osma.
