Why don't I try a shave and cork one side of another brand new Timor and see if I can feel a difference. The "corked" blade last week was nice but I never tried it before. You bring up a good point in coatings because many of the blades I like are coated which imparts smoothness. Somehow I think corking sounds appealing on a Feather DE. I used those in the past with milder razor and I didn't find the "platinum" coating. Maybe I should actually try a Feather since it was what came with the razor in the first place from John and James. Feather DE blades mostly shaved uncomfortable on my face.
According to the excellent article on the BBS-1 by Sharpologist, the razor was designed with the Feather in mind. I've used various blades in mine, but pretty much stick with Feather on that particular razor ... with stellar results.
I first heard of 'corking' a blade years ago. I've never tried it. I get along fine with the blades that have a reputation of being ultra sharp, and I figure they'll get dull quickly enough without my accelerating the process. YMMV ...

Platinum nor chromium is either one a "coating". PTFE (Teflon) is the blade coating on all modern stainless blades. Platinum and/or chromium are sputtered onto the blade edges to improve the edge hardness to allow it to hold up and not "round" quickly, i.e., dull.

Agreed.IMHO , the feather is still the best blade in the BBS-1. I have tried a Wizamet Iridium and it works quite well but feather is still the #1 choice in this razor for me.
