I just used my sample of No. 9 yesterday. It's pretty good albeit very short lived. I've really been enjoying my Chiseled Face Bay Rum EdP and a sample of their Santa Monica Bay Rum aftershave lately. I just got a Mike's Natural Soaps Bay Rum in the mail yesterday too. It smells great and I'm excited to give it a go.

Mike's Bay Rum is my favorite Bay Rum soap.

It smells really good and Mike's is a stellar soap so I'm happy to add it to my collection.
I’ve said it before, probably more than once, bay rum has way of growing on a person if you give it a fair chance.  Chiseled Face is a nice, boozy bay rum. Santa Monica bay rum is good too. I see that it’s Made by Chiseled Face now. It used to be made by Los Angeles Shave Soap Company. I didn’t see anything about Chiseled Face acquiring LASSC or their catalog but something must have happened.

*I checked both websites LASSC still makes Santa Monica Bay Rum shaving soap but no longer appears to produce aftershave. Chiseled Face carries Santa Monica Bay Rum soap and aftershave. Are they the same? I don’t know. If anyone knows anything about this please chime in.

John's a guy treated far less well by history than deserved.

He revolutionized premium razors to what they have become today and launched the career of the guy getting all the credit

Yep, Ron of Chiseled Face acquired LASSCo some time ago to keep the brand and scents alive. He updated the soap base too, but I believe it's still a vegan formula. He also makes some of the LASSCo scents under the Chiseled Face name, presumably so they can be had in a tallow base to go among with the vegan one. Pretty cool of him if you ask me!

Hey Jeff, thanks for the information. It’s cool that he did that. LASSC has some unique scents. Not everybody’s cup of tea but he marched to his own tune. There’s a few now defunct artisans that had great stuff. It would be interesting to see some of their cataloguesrevived. For example, Kramperts Acadian Spice Bay Rum, although my understanding is that Brian  wasn’t interested in selling the formula and brand when approached in that regard. I’d also like to see someone revive the Bufflehead catalogue. Can you think of any more?

unfortunately, being short lived is a thing for *most* bay rums.

PAA, ethos and derby city winter reserve all have pretty good staying power.

I tried CF Bay Rum and did not like it AT ALL.

Different strokes I guess. I know PAA is known for their different takes on bay rum, but I have no interest in trying them. The Derby City stuff is one I have been curious about before though.

Been using it for years. Rhett Butler wore it during the Civil War, haha

Is that a home made custom label? Doesn’t Mike’s have the most unimaginative labels in the world?
