For me, SH makes the best performing Bay out there. I have tried about a dozen. I like all varieties but this one is a solid year rounder. Rob, I concur.

I’ve mentioned before an experience a couple of years ago now when I’d got four of those paper strips sprayed with four different fragrances from a shop. I brought them home to sniff them over time to decide which I liked best. Budget you know. There was one that I found to be so faintly scented that I could barely perceive anything at all. I asked my wife to sniff to get her input. She found the “faint “ one to be almost overpowering. There you go. If I’d had a bottle of that stuff I’d probably have applied liberally because it was so mildly scented and then I’d have gone out and scent bombed countless people.Agreed Marko. That is why I posted best performing Bay. And you are right, one man's favorite scent may smell like wet dog to another fella.and it goes without saying YRMV.
The point is, how something smells to you may not be anything like how it smells to someone else. That’s why I think the scent part of wet shaving is the hardest part for an artisan to do well. That’s why many, maybe most don’t blend their own scents. I don’t think I’m being unduly critical just factual. If you look at churchilllafemme Fragrance Terms thread you’ll see at the foot of each category post a listing colognes/EDT/EDP that feature the subject fragrance. I’m struck by how many different fragrance houses there are. Major, minor and niche/boutique fragrance houses that employ skilled expert noses producing numerous fragrances and guaranteed you aren’t going to like them all no matter how expertly crafted they might be. The odds of a start up wet shaving artisan with no training or background in fragrance producing a widely popular “hit” fragrance without any expert assistance are vanishingly small.

Boys, what works with Bay Rums from a post shave EDT/
EDP aspect. I can't for the life of me ascertain what to use that is a good pairing. Not really untested in a bay rum AFS - want something to last 5+ hours. Any ideas?

What DanLaw said - citrus. specifically lime.
I mentioned above that I picked up some bay rum EDP - like them. Stirling and some PAA.
You've got me thinking if some of the bay inspired scents would pair well with a bay rum. I'm thinking Czech & Speake Cuba or PAA Kiritimati . Both are spicy. I'm going to experiment and will report back.

I’ve been accused of being opinionated. It doesn’t come without an explanation…ever.
I’ve tried 20+ Bay Rums this year, 2021. A handful made the cut, Of the cut only a few remain, Of those few only 1 has been a repurchase.
What do YOU like in a Bay Rum? It’s my opinion if a Bay Rum is heavy clove, it’s not a true bay rum
Sir Henry’s is my current Fav
Island Estate is a good one.
I’m not fussed about Clove. It doesn’t have to be there and I don’t actively dislike it. I try to judge the bay rum as a whole. If it’s crappy, Clove won’t save it. If it’s good, clove won’t ruin it. At least for me. I think ogallala has clove but I still like it. I know, call me enigmatic but I like what I like. I like your artwork.
