I used my Marilyn sample today and wow!! Although it smells good whiffed dry, it really comes into its own when lathered on the face!!

B&M description:

...Blended with notes of amber, bergamot, cedar, clary sage, coriander, fir, labdanum, leather, opoponax, tonka, tobacco, sandalwood, vetiver, and ylang ylang...

I really get the opoponax and tonka.

Nice wow  what can I Say Only B&M can do this!!

I just ordered samples of Marilyn & Fougère Classique from Maggard and will report back here next week with my 2 cents.

What’s your initial thoughts on Marilyn? I’m concerned about the leather.

Marilyn is a beautiful scent. I get the opoponax and vanilla mainly. It reminds me of that B&M soap of a few years back that was a Valentine's Day scent of which I had a sample and have forgot the name. That is if my memory is correct. Regardless, it actually smells better lathered. Cold weather scent for sure and I get no leather.

I found a partially full AS sample bottle of the old one I was thinking of:  B&M Ravish. However, having smelled it again and the Marilyn SxS I was wrong. Marilyn smells more like a sweeter version of Full Measure Of A Man which is IMO a good thing as I really like the latter (and Ravish too!).

I want to see them reintro Sunny Lane as I really, really liked that one and snoozed at the wheel too long when I should have bought a tub.  

I like Ravish although I was hoping you meant Night Music which I also like but now that you compare it to Full Measure I’m not sure I’ll try it. I’ve tried to like Full Measure but…

Marko, you should have ordered a Marilyn sample from Maggard as they just had a sale on samples. Don't pre-judge too harshly as to be frank it is an epic scent. IMHO it is beautiful.

Does Marilyn come across gourmand at all to you or does it have more of a sweet incense feel to it? You mentioned the vanilla side to it so thats why I'm asking. Bummer that you don't get any leather, that's kind of what I was hoping some of it would come across in the scent.

Funny, you want leather and I don’t. It’s true I should get a sample but for reasons I won’t get into I don’t do business with Maggards. Leather used judiciously can be very nice and make a scent but in my experience it’s often used injudiciously with a heavy hand. Probably it’s me and my nose but too much leather is a nonstarter for me.
