Aylsworth Drakkant DE Razor, DFS pass around

I have used the Drakkant for 3 consecutive days starting Sunday.  Sunday was on 4 or 5 days growth and I struggled a little.  I went with the old "It's about beard reduction, not beard elimination" philosophy and intentionally lightened up on the pressure.  I wound up with a near BBS shave but it was a good bit of work and lots of rinsing.

The past two shaves were on 24 hours growth.  This is where the razor shines.  I played around with the attack angle and it does work better on the cap.  My issue with that is I lose the blade edge.  If I lose the edge, I instinctively go looking for it and that yields less than optimal results...so, I ran it steep and had no issues at all on light growth.  BBS shaves on a typical 2.5 passer.  I did have to do a little buffing on the jaw line but nothing major and no irritation.

I cold water shave and was impressed with how well the Drakkant rinses.  The lather channels clean up well even with the coldest of water.  Some of my razors in rotation struggle with cold water rinsing.

I had no issues with the finish and think it feels fine.  A smoother finish on the production model will bump up the performance a good bit, I believe.  However, the Drakkant prototype is a very nice razor in it's current state, IMO.  No drag at all.

Balance point is about a 1/2" down the knurling and feels great in the hand.  No complaints there at all.

The only thing I would note is the stove on the bottom of the head needs to be slightly larger to accommodate a standard nylon washer.


While the .74 gap is not necessarily intended for guys with a varied shaving routine, like me, I thoroughly enjoyed playing with this one and look forward to future offerings for Kaleb and Aylsworth.  It is great to hear he partnered with Yates for manufacturing and I am sure the products are going to be top notch.

The only thing I would note is the stove on the bottom of the head needs to be slightly larger to accommodate a standard nylon washer.

I am in on the pre-order I'm glad you noted the above. I use nylon washers on all my razors that I have with the exception of those designed with a handles like Tatara and Yates.

FWIW, nylon washers I picked up at home depot fit in the base of my CG razors which are a tight fit. Might work on the Drakkant but a slightly larger diameter as Loot suggested would be nice.

It works, but it is a tight fit.  Hopefully a tweak that is easy to make.

I'll see what I can do!  Do you know the dimensions of the nylon washer in question?
