Atelier Durdan No 7 Passaround - Saturday Morning Luxury Shave Edition - .7 plate-Nacet blade

Only one shave in, but my initial impression is I love this razor. I chose the .7 plate as I like to start in the middle.

So smooth and efficient. The .7 plate put me in mind of a Karve Overlander but twice the efficiency. I did not detect siginificant blade feel, just smooth and comfortable shaving. I could have called it quits after the WTG pass. I did a light ATG pass and found I was BBS. The stubborn jawline and side corners of the neck were smooth. No secondary buffing necessary.

Shaving the dome was just as efficient. Head shaving requires a little more buffing to clear the solar panel, and this was no exception. However, two passes with light touch up on traditional problem spots provided far more efficiency than most razors.

I like to set aside "personal indulgence time" for the Saturday Morning Luxury Shave. My only "disappointment" was I was done much earlier than expected Smile

Atelier Durdan No 7 Passaround - Sunday Evening Edition - 1.1 plate - Nacet blade

Tonight's face and dome shave employed the 1.1 plate using the same Nacet blade use, 3 and 4.

A note regarding the handle - the No. 7 design is beautiful and well balanced. The smooth Vestige handle, although elegant, was too slippery for me. The No. 7 handle is very secure in my hand and not slippery at all thanks to the cross hatch pattern.

The 1.1 plate put me in mind of Blackbird as far as blade feel. I did not notice an improvement in efficiency over the .7 plate, but I wonder if that is due to blade use. The highly efficient .7 shave was on the blade's first use.

Nevertheless, the 1.1 plate performed admirably with a touch more blade feel, producing great results in 2 passes plus more touch ups than previously.

Atelier Durdan No 7 Passaround - Sunday Evening Edition - .7 plate - Nacet blade

Curious about blade use and efficiency,  I returned to the
.7 plate using the Nacet on its 5th and final shave. .7 is still a goldilocks plate for me, providing an exceedingly comfortable two pass shave.  However, traditional trouble spots required a little cleanup due to blade wear. Very satisfied. 1.5 up next.

Atelier Durdan No 7 Passaround - 1.5 and .3 plates

1.5 plate increased blade feel and efficiency, but also introduced a touch of irritation.  Still a smooth shave in two passes.

.3 plate required 3 passes, but gave a smooth gentle shave.

Atelier Durdan No 7 Passaround - The Final Shave Edition - .7 and 1.1 and plates

For the final shave, I selected my two favorites - .7 plate for the face and 1.1 plate for the dome. So efficient and so comfortable.

Atelier Durdan razors are among the top razors I have experienced in terms of craftsmanship, artistry, and performance. The No. 7 is my favorite AD razor for comfort and performance. The 0.7 plate is the sweet spot for my needs and desires. I am very glad to have the privilege of experiencing this razor. It is boxed up and on its way to the next lucky shaver.

Great reviews ewk
We share the same sentiment, .7 is my sweet spot as well. I now have La Faulx Ti, Maurice Copper and now Ss No7. They have great customer service as well.

GlazedBoker Gus, I was surprised, disappointed and troubled when I ran across a thread in another forum only to learn you had cut ties. I'll miss your very informative reviews and knowledge there but good to see you landed at DFS.

As for Atelier Durdan and the No.7, I really have no business jones'n over this razor. My name is due to come up on the Wolfman list again in perhaps a month but...

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.

Being a pushover for a lightweight, thin head I can't help but be intrigued by the N.7. The flat-ish head puts me in mind of my Lupos, Gamechanger and Salient. Is the shaving angle steep, neutral or more toward the shallow end of the pool?
I'm not in the pass around (lazy poster) but do have an additional question:

Do you know the finish on this razor as shown in all these photos? Maybe I missed that info. I notice very faint horizontal machining marks(?) across the top of the cap but nothing outrageous. Is this the basic polished?

cheers
