Good info everyone. I knew about bufflehead and music city suds, but nice to know about some other local options.

Goats are a multipurpose critter - milk, soap, meat (mmmm... goat curry), girlfriend, lawnmower, etc. The list of uses is nearly endless, but shaving soap is the most important by far. Wink

Goat tallow soap would be such a non-starter for me. Notwithstanding how trendy goat cheese seems to be in every restaurant I've been to, I do not care for it. It tastes how I imagine (yes imagine ) a goat's armpits would taste like. Overpoweringly Goat-ey. Yuck. A shaving soap that had any of that goat-iness coming through would likely make me gag.
They use goat milk, not goat tallow, at least all the goat milk soaps I have seen. None of the goat milk soaps I tried smelled even slightly like goat to me. Yeah, a herd of goats can get pretty rancid. The one I used to drive by occasionally was roll-up-the-windows stinky.

That sounds right. I'm not at home now to check, but if I remember correctly, one of my favorite makers (soap quality and scent) CRSW uses goat milk and you can't smell anything unpleasant. Milk soaps have a long history...By the way, not sure beef tallow really smells that much better than any other tallow in its raw form Wink
