For some reason I thought I had posted on this, but alas I couldn't find it.
So, last night's shave was a really good one. The height of the DSC brush makes it look odd on the shelf, but it's performance was "huge" IMO.
Let's start by saying, it is a bit out of my wheelhouse. The brush has more backbone than I go for. It also has a noticeable glue bump, albeit not oversized. The splaying is on the stiffer side too, without a lot of "range of motion", compared to my usual fan selection.
However, the knot is dense(ish) and the tips are quite soft... so I feel like those two things allow it to (1) store a fair amount of lather and yet (2) make it fairly accessible with the soft tips. What I mean is, with the soft tips, I don't worry about pushing to splay and get at the knots hidden stash of lather. It's comfortable, regardless of the pressure.
I'm not even close to saying, "this is my best brush ever, go buy one". Lol. Still, for me, it is leaps and bounds better than I expected. So much so, that regardless of how silly it looks (the dwarf on the shelf), I'm leaning towards using it in my daily rotation... not just for infrequent travel.
Since I'm rambling on about brushes, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that other one I got. The glue has set and I used it dry on my face this morning to see the general performance. It's absolutely hard / impossible to tell how it'll really work on a wet shave by just dry brushing it once or twice. Still, it brought back a reminder of why "my favorite knot" was relegated to storage: the tips. Something happened to the 2BED (at least mine) with all of the daily usage - remember, at one point this was my only knot... I believe. They seemed to have gotten "sharp" or "pokey". It wasn't that way when I got it, so I can only imagine something broke down or wore away or ... I don't know. Again, I've used these daily for a while. So, maybe I pushed it too far? Also, maybe that's why AP cannot get them anymore... the manufacturer could have come to this realization... it has a short lifespan? This could all be in my head, mind you (it is, I'm crazy). Nonetheless, I perceive what I perceive. Lol. We'll know better when it gets an actual shave or three under its belt. In the meantime, I'm going to try to avoid overthinking it.
Sorry for the long, drawn out post. Thanks for reading my little tale of insanity.
