Anything that can go wrong will happen while I'm shaving...

Jump right in, there's a lot of pitiful looking old brushes that need a new home! Which I find amazing for a product that was meant to be disposable like a toothbrush.

Despite their original throw away intent, I am happy to see the work done on these historic beauties.

There's something nice about having a piece of history in your den... Just like vintage razors.

I am going to seriously consider it, but for now will put it off until at least February, if not later. I don't have the needed stuff to do a restoration job like Toby showed us recently, but a Rubber Set handle may be more doable. Right now, I am looking to learn to shave myself with a straight. (Gulp. I like my ears and lips where they are!)

There is a bit of a learning curve on straights, don’t get discouraged. My first 25 shaves were pretty rough while learning. By shave 100 you’ll have it down.

Yeah, by then you will have removed all those pesky obstacles, like your nose and chin!

Yep, 2mm over unless you're going to set the knot extremely shallow, which you shouldn't. You should get the knot in hand before going any further IMO, then figure the depth you want to set it before filling anything in or making the hole bigger. Dremel tools are fantastic for working on brushes.

Well, it's official... the handle clearing is very uneven! Lol.

The Maggards boar knot arrived this morning. On some spots there is over 2mm, others it looks to be just under it. So, I decided that I'm going to wait and do it right. I have the drill bit coming in that Paul Stubble Daddy suggested. I'll use that to lower the hole a bit and level it out (hopefully).

If I end up breaking through the bottom, I do have 2-part epoxy I can fill it with. Should make it solid as a rock. Might even add some sand to the epoxy for added weight.

I look forward to reading your progress reports, Paul! You are definitely mastering up a level, from simple knot setting to restoration, well done! It is very enjoyable for me to create a brush, but that is really overplaying my hand, as I neither made the knot nor the handle! I procured the parts and have had fun creating different set ups. As I say, this will be fun to watch as you move forward.

On my way to Massachusetts this afternoon. My daughter was accepted into Mount Holyoke College. So, we have the required trek to the school store. I didn't know when we were applying, but it's the equivalent of an ivy league (7-sisters colleges) for female-only schools. I'm very proud today (and broke tomorrow, haha).
