I recently got a vintage plisson HMW, however it is huge and although the seller didn't say what size it was it must be a size 20. It makes all my other brushes look small, including a Simpsons chubby 3. The brush has never been used, I'm thinking to use it but it doesn't seem possible it's just so big. I was wondering if anyone else has used a plisson size 20 or has any thoughts on it? I'm a face latherer
In that case, likely intended for head and body shaving. Problem is body shaving much more effective with canned goop as counter intuitive as that seems.
Would be nice to see it side by side with some of your larger knots.
Final thought is its collector value likely enhanced by being unused. If impractical, may be best to try raffling it off or auctioning worldwide

What are the measurement of the knot? To me, it doesn't seem overly large from your photo. However, I could be mistaken. How much larger is the knot diameter than your Chubby 3?
I have a few XXL brushes, 35mm +
The knot loft does seem to be quite high, but I wouldn't necessarily say it is excessive.
Again, the photo can be deceiving, though.
It surely is beautiful.

Not sure of the exact measurements but the new plisson HMW knot in size 20 have a 68mm loft, hear are some pictures next to my Chubby 3 as you can see the Handel is bigger however the knot size looks similar except from the plisson having a much bigger loft, I'm really not sure how this would perform face lathering, IV wanted one for ages so I think I might as well give it a go
I have size 20s and it looks to be in the size category for them. Of course without a comparison next to another brush it can be quite hard to tell.
Indeed Plissons are on the loftier side. Due to that some would say it would be better for bowl shaving. I don’t worry about that stuff and use it however I want. I always use a scuttle and sometimes I build in the bowl more than on the face, sometimes reverse. I think a large brush that is more open and loftier works quite well for building lather on the face, even more so than the short, dense brushes. Both have a wall of badger effect. One you feel more centrically on the face, the other is a large puff ball.
As to using that’s up to you. Some would want to keep it pristine for a collection, others would want to use it. I can see both sides.
