Any Input on a G-Bar?

Thank you, Freddy . And you will be pleased to know that I used it tonight, and I enjoyed it. I used it for my first 2 passes, but I switched to the Super Speed and Feather to do the third pass and touchup.

I now know that the blade did play a large role in my dislike of the Featherweight, but the weight also played a big role. This one felt much better in my hand, like I had more control of it than with the Featherweight. And of coarse the PTFE coated stainless blade made a HUGE difference.

I'm looking forward to shaving with it tomorrow, and hopefully getting all 3 passes, if not the touchups as well, with the G Bar. I am REALLY looking forward to getting proficient enough with it that I can throw it into regular rotation!

That's great to hear, Chris. That is sort of what happened to me the first few times I used a Schick Injector.  I kept getting small weepers and mild irritation. Then someone suggested I only do two passes instead of three and, suddenly, Bingo, perfection. My Schick Injector Adjustable is now one of my favorite razors.

Also, I happen to agree with you about the PTFE blades; they do make a "HUGE difference."

Yea, I'm pretty happy with it. Happy enough that I just placed an order for 25 more PTFE coated stainless blades, so I don't have to worry about running out!

You should try the Gem 1912 next, it's a hair more agressive then the G-Bar.

you should be able to push a GEM SS PTFE blade pretty far before it starts to degrade and needs to be replaced. I'm pretty sure that both SharpSpine & ShadowsDad push them past 20 comfortable shaves without any problems.

I don't know about Sharpspine, but 20 shaves is the low average for me. Quite a few of them give me 30+ shaves. Bear in mind that the 30th shave doesn't feel like the 4th shave, but as long as the shave is comfortable and the blade cuts efficiently I don't change the blade. Because of the stiffness of the blade they don't bite the way a DE blade will. They just stop cutting efficiently. The biggest problem with me canning blades is my boredom. I want to just move on lots of times.

FWIW, I start a fresh blade in a mild razor and as it ages it gets moved into far more aggressive razors. The ER '24 being about as aggressive as it gets.

Agreed. More often than not I'm putting in a new blade out of boredom.

I only have the one SE, so if I get too bored, I'll just keep the blade in it and pick up one of the DEs...

The Gem G bar is a fine razor. You have great taste in soaps, the blades last forever, go forth and shave!
