Angle AND azimuth? Hairs laying close to your skin

Best way to learn wetshaving technique is the straight razor.
All the things are about 3 main point:

• Face Mapping
  
• Stretching the skin
  
• Cutting angle of the edge
  

Using these, with every shaving system It's always easy to have an efficient BBS.
Deep, long lasting, smooth shave.

In practice ...

1. Face Mapping shows the path
   
2. Stretching controls the depth
   
3. Angle to let the bevel glide
   

... not that difficult in theory.

But learning curve can be long.
Specially switching daily between different tools.
IMHO, best way is to stick with one setup for the time to have constantly the BBS.
BUT, this kills the hype (and fun) that makes the circus move.

Interesting - I wonder whether a milder shaver (or an adjustable turned way down) could be used against the grain in this case with slightly higher pressure - maybe this would allow the razor bar to depress the skin a bit, and get under these nuisance hairs. ...

Sure. There's a big deal about using a minimum of pressure and "letting the weight of the razor do the work"—which I think is nonsense. A razor could be anywhere from 30 to 130 grams or some such. I use extra pressure all the time in some places.

I've been favouring lighter and milder razors lately (Henson AL13 Mild, Edwin Jagger DE87) and enjoying the shave more. I might get a closer shave with a more aggressive razor, but I have to go more slowly, with less pressure, and really work at it to avoid weepers.

About those "nuisance hairs": Beware of trying to shave away what I call "ghost stubble". It feels like there's stubble when you rub your fingers ATG, but it never seems to get any smoother after several passes. Just give up, finish the shave and apply whatever you like for aftershave, let the skin dry, and in 15-30 minutes it will magically feel BBS. What felt like stubble just disappears. I experience this mostly on either side of my adam's apple and have learned to ignore it.

Great post. And very true on the stubble check delay. I too have give with mikder razors.
