Yesterday was supposed to rain but then the forecast was changed. I dragged ML out of bed and we took a short 4 mile hike. The White Mountains National Forest parking area called Appalachia is 15 minutes from us. It is trail head parking for many different trails. We hiked the  "waterfalls loop"  which utilized parts of 4 trails.

We picked up a trail called Fallsway that follows Snyder Brook up the base of Mt Madison. The Fallsway gains 400 feet in 0.7 miles. In that distance there are 3 named waterfalls.
It rained most of last week so we were expecting a good show.

This is Gordon's Fall the first one you reach.

The sound of the rushing water is so loud you can't hear each other talk.

Next up was Salroc. This is divided into an Upper and Lower falls. This is the lower.

I like this picture of ML having her coffee by the brook. While there are 3 named falls the whole brook is at a steep incline and to me looked like a continuous waterfall.

The third waterfall is named Tama. It had a double waterfall. This is the lower.

And this is the upper.

We climbed a little higher to connect with the Valleyway trail. This trail leads to the Mt Madison summit. But we did not go up. We descended for almost a mile and turned left. We hiked parallel to the mountain base for another 0.7 miles. We saw miles of maple sap tubing. Hiked under it as the lines round down the mountain.

We reached Coldbrook and the Coldbrook falls.

Below the falls is a rustic bridge.

ML braved it while I stayed close to the bank.

We had a lovely day. Only saw two other people. Young men with packs and skis on their backs. The were hiking straight up Valley way to reach Kings Ravine for some backwoods skiing.
We had the waterfalls all to ourselves. It was beautiful.

Nice! You must be near the Presidential Range, yes?

I think there is an innate need for humanity to be near water of some type. For me I've noticed that I especially like moving water and if it's falling even better.

Yes. Parked off of rt 2 The Presidential Highway.
The Valleyway  trail goes straight up to the summits of Mt Madison and Mt Adams.
Mt Jefferson and Mt Washington are a little southwest of Mt Adams.
