I recall Murat relating some time ago that there is no Ti build planned.  Did that change?

I think originally he mentioned doing a full Ti version but it wouldn't be in the near future and then not too long ago said if he did one it would only be partial Titanium and not solid...

I don't know. I only recently started taking a closer look at the Rocnel Sailor so don't have much history on this. I was just wondering out loud about a Ti option.

Mixed metals, sounds interesting.   I would spring for that.  'Specially if he tosses some gold on there.  I can't get the image out of my mind of a gold inlay anchor on the cap.  Somebody plant a bug in his ear my birthday is coming up.

Just noting that I tried a Feather in my Rocnel for two days. Did not get good shaves; harsh and despite trying different settings a bunch of small nicks. Interesting experiment but I'll stick with GSBs or Seven O'Clock Yellows for now....

There are so many variables at play that I’m always unsure how to take recommendations of razor and blade pairings, and I am never confident giving my recommendations. Technique and angle seem to make a big difference to how blades perform, it seems to me, and I bet different hair toughness completely changes things. I will say that I generally use Kai blades in my Sailors and it works fantastically well for me, but I guess if Feathers aren’t working for you then Kais might be worse.

I was thinking of trying a Bic Chrome for my next Sailor shave. They give less than average blade exposure and are very mild feeling for me, but sharp. For me Bics can make an efficient razor not efficient sometimes, and can reduce the range of effective angles, but for something very gappy like the Sailor or a Wolfman WR2 I wonder if they could be a good option. I’ll report back when I’ve tried.

I wanna try a Feather first, though. You’ve got me interested.

I agree about pairings as a rule. I posted just to give one impression of the Feather in a Rocnel.  Everyone else might be different.  However, I've not tried a Kai with the Sailor.  Should do so. As for Bics, I'm generally a large fan (although the quality can be hit-or-miss) and when I first got the Sailor, I tried one but it didn't thrill. Also might be worth trying again, now that I'm really fully locked into the razor.

I only use Feathers on 3 piece razors that need a little oomph to get the job done. They are usually tuggy on larger gaps. Same goes for a Kai really. Lower gap razor can really benefit from a both blades, on my face.

I run GSBs, Platinums, and green Astras for the most part. All are smoother to me than Kai and Feather.

It's sharp and it cuts. I like it...

Pure shaving bliss this morning. Hadn’t used the Sailor in some time and wanted to get an easy yet close shave. Could have pulled out a few others that could and obviously do the same thing as the Sailor does. The thing is though is that despite the bulk & heft of this razor, in hand the experience translates into totally the opposite of what one should expect and actually waits for. Cumbersome, heavy and no continuity in transitions from left to right, ATG, WTG & XTG passes. I use both hands when I shave equally and when I first used my Sailor and held it, it felt like a Cadillac Escalade. Though refined and luxurious looking, it felt a bit overkill. In comparison, my Taiga is more like a BMW X5 M Competition in feel and looks. Not as refined looking or as opulent but, it‘s a performer. In theory, the Sailor should not be as comfortable & efficient feeling as the Taiga. Nor should it feel 2nd nature in the hands. And yet, despite the size and weight it is totally equal to the Taiga in every aspect pertaining to the feel and end results of a shave. When it’s on the skin and one applies that first stroke, all the negative thoughts on how it’s supposed to feel goes right out the window and the proverbial “What The Hell” signage comes to mind like a neon sign at 3am when Joe’s Tavern closes the doors. In the beginning for me, I kept telling myself during each stroke and pass that this should not be happening and yet, it was. Shave after shave without a single deviation of the Sailor’s purpose. What is that purpose? A masterfully created razor designed to exude jewel like qualities in form and function with over the top opulence in shaving gear. Does one need a Sailor to receive the finest of shaves known to mankind? Absolutely not but, most things that we men have in our lives is because we WANTED it, not because we needed it. If one seeks opulence adjoined to performance and world class craftsmanship and the singular feel that you have arguably the best razor in existence, there is no peer for the Rocnel Sailor when you encompass all the qualities and its engineering designed into this razor.

It’s a beaut to look at and even better to shave with. Great shaves to all…

Continuing thread about blades and pains in the Rocnel: have now done three days with a Kai blade. Thinking it's the best pairing I've yet to have. Have to set about .5 more aggressive than with a GSB, and it's been quite enjoyable.

Cool. I’m glad you liked this pairing. It works great for me and is still very smooth for the high level of efficiency it gives.
