Agreed. Cabot guns is manufacturing pieces out of meteorite. Steep price but creative thinking.

I actually reached out to a razor manufacturer recently to see if they could do a custom in SS Mokume Gane. No response as of yet but think it would be a cool thing to both see and own if possible.

On a similar note, Christopher Ward manufactures watches with parts reclaimed from WWII Spitfires.

So many cool, clever things to do that are based on selection of materials vs. design.

My a RAD has been properly satisfied. There's nothing out in the market or the wild that can top what I already own. I don't care for LE items and looks don't matter much to me. I don't care how pretty a razor can be if it offers a crappy shave.

I really can't see anything else that I want or need at this point. Can only use one razor at a time, and in the last year I managed to land every razor that I wanted to add to the rotation. I'm not a collector, so having razors laying around for the sake of bragging, is not my style.

I tend to agree and had intended on freezing my razor purchases for the time being. I did break the rule and purchase a Blackbird last night though. Don't need it but do like supporting those that support us and it looks like a nice addition to the rotation.

Thanks Jeff, this whole traditional wet shaving thing is quite a phenomenon.  I'm really interested to see what comes down the pipe.  I have toyed with the idea of getting involved in some way - I was retired last spring and have had some time on my hands.  I think the internet and forums like DFS are incredible opportunities to learn from people around the world and leverage all of the creativity and ingenuity that is out there.  The premium razor space is interesting in that what started out as making cheap razors to sell blades has become using cheap (relatively) blades in expensive razors.  Who knew?  King Camp Gillette is kicking himself in his grave for missing out on this marketing opportunity.  Well probably not, I don't think the current business model would have survived back then.  Its only through the work and innovation done by the likes of Gillette in the early days that we have been able to get where we are now.  Again, a great time to be alive.

I, too, haven't seen any new razors that made me succumb to opening my wallet but that, in no way, doesn't mean I wasn't tempted. I'm just keeping an open mind and thoroughly enjoying reading about what's out there and our members' thoughts about them. There have been some terrific writeups, such as SharpSpine's ongoing OneBlade razor journal. These keep us on the cutting edge (pun definitely intended ) of what is out there and allow us to make informed decisions.

I'm trying to keep it to just a handful of vintage razors, and a newer Pearl OC head, and Maggard's MR-22 handle. The Blackbird sure does look like one sweet razor though, so we shall see.
