I was never a “prepper” When Trump got elected I became one.

Every household should be able to lock the doors and shelter in place for at least two weeks... 4 is better.  If you couldn’t leave your house for two weeks would you be able to shelter in place that long?  Do you have adequate food, water, medicine, power alternatives, for your family in such an event?

Do you have the means to protect your resources? Corona is coming.... are you prepared?

Not a prepper but well prepared and then some for northern New England weather. Being ready for that leaves us well prepared for anything.
We have food, firewood, a wood cookstove, a water source and a generator. The generator is actually my weakest link. It is a whole house propane fired generator. When grid power goes down the genset kicks on. Wether I am using power or not the genset runs. It is supposed to modulate down for low draw but I have not tested that.
It has a master power switch so one could shut it off that way asumming I am home.

Outlawed member Kav had a thread about prepping. You had neatly stacked high speed lead poisoning pellets in your post. Those and the delivery device are a requirement.

Yup, rural New England weather "prepper" here as well. 4 weeks? Yeah, we could easily do that and longer if necessary. If I saw it coming I'd have to fill all of the fuel cans but that's about it. Of course it would be easier in the summer when the garden is producing. I'd miss fresh greens if it happened now. That would be my biggest concern... greens.

The longest we've done so far was a week and that showed us where we needed to do better. Today we could do MUCH better.

Damn! I'd have to come out of ketosis and that would tick me off! My wife would run out of tobacco, that would means something to each of us, both in different ways. Big Grin

Of course the point would be to keep people away and we have what we need to do that. Most rural folk do have the means for that. I know everyone on the hill does.

Story... the month is May a year and a half ago we had an armed cop killer running around the back 40. OK, I call it that but it's actually thousands of acres. It started on a Monday morning and when the hill knew what was going on we all locked and loaded and were as safe as possible. It wasn't worth going through the gauntlet of LEOs so we just stayed home. On day 3 the media was allowed in and I was interviewed. I got my 5 seconds of national fame with my ugly mug on TV (ABC) and my statement to the effect, I'm not worried about our safety, but I would question his. That wasn't the quote but that was the gist. The entire hill was armed. I did animal chores with a bullet launcher slung over my body while the wife scanned. Later, A neighbor was doing 'dozer maintenance and I had the same rifle and kept watch, and another neighbor had a handgun. The point is that we can all keep folks away if that's the goal and that includes keeping each other away.

Under the circumstances of a pandemic where we had to stay clear of others we could easily do it. We have everything we need.

I have gone up to two weeks between grocery runs. Personally I don't see this virus as being any worse than what we deal with on a yearly basis when it comes to dealing with the flu virus. Just try to keep things sanitized and clean when you can, and take care of yourself the best you can.

It could get bad, more on this is a bit. Masks don't work as a preventative because viruses are small enough to get through them, but they are of value if someone has it and is spewing. In that case the particles of mucous and snot are large enough for the mask to catch. But it needs to be the right type and worn correctly. The aluminum strip is there to be squeezed for a good fit on the bridge of the nose. Too, the mask shouldn't be one of the easy exhale type.

If someone wants to do something proactive, buy a gallon of bleach. It's still very effective at killing corona virus in a dilution.

Buy hand sanitizer and use it. Or buy vodka and use that as hand sanitizer, it can also be consumed to make the 4 weeks fly by when one is in an alcohol induced stupor. Don't put the hands near any mucous membranes or the face. These are the same precautions that one would take for the flu.

If it should begin spreading one can be contagious and not even know it for 10 days. The mortality rate, from the little that is known is just shy of 4% and that's quite a bit higher than the flu. It's fatal to the likely suspects, the very young and the very old. So if it begins to spread the thing to do is to hole up early on since no one would be able to tell who is contagious and who isn't.
