I had recently joined this site and wanted to share some things I've made (shave-related of course)

I have a metal lathe and a mill (as well as a surface grinder and other metal-working tools)

My plan is to keep this thread as a running thread - so check back often

I put this in Displays and Collections because that seemed to fit best. Although if the mods ever create a Show and Tell - DIY forum ... it should be moved there

Let's start with some 3-piece razor handles.   Some brass, some stainless, and the one shown with an ATT head is titanium

Next up - a little leather-work  - I made a custom travel case.   The head is a Timeless 68 in Titanium and the handle is custom made titanium also.  I made it to fit the razor and a vintage Gillette blade-bank

Now - to round it out for now ... some wood working and my shave-cave

I built the cabinet out of Maple and then I did the mirror in maple with cherry accents.   Then the brush-rack is also cherry.   My wife found some shave-related cross-stitch and made them for me as a surprise.   So I made custom frames and cut the mats too.

The actual razors and brushes are different now ... I still have some, and others are gone - but you get the idea

Oh - I didn't do the stained glass - but I designed it and had a local artisan make the panels for me  Smile

Razor stands ... sometimes a razor comes with a well-designed and complimentary stand.   Sometimes they are availabe at an extra cost, and sometimes you have to make them yourself.

These are stands that I've made.

On some of them you will see little dots or 'pips' like on dice.   My concept was to rotate the stand so that there was no pip showing when I loaded a blade.  Then, after the first shave I'd rotate the stand to show a single pip.  After the second shave, rotate the stand to show two pips - and repeat.
That way, no matter how many razors you have in rotation, when you come back to that razor, you can see at a glance how many shaves you have on the blade.

I've made a couple blade banks too for used blades.   You can often find shave talc tins on auction sites or antique stores.   The tin is pretty thin and it's easy to use a utility knife to put a slot in the top (after you empty any remaining talc) then you drop the blade in after use.   If you feel ambitious, you can cut some of the bottom out if you want to empty it and reuse, but they are cheap enough that I usually look for a new one when they are full.

Nice work! I really dig that stonewashed razor stand. It would be perfect for my Yates razor.

Norm Abrams would be very proud of you. Norm was on "This Old House" for at least 45 years and probably the best artisan I have ever seen until now. You could give him a run for his money.
